I know what I want for Christmas (Chapter 2 of Honeymoon Quest)
Honeymoon Quest - Chapter 1 and 2 Announcement
It's been a while since the last Devlog! I thought I'd give an update for all you fans of the Demo about what the plans are on my end regarding Honeymoon Quest.
Fortunately for us all: it's only good news here.
I'm currently writing Chapter Two as a continuation of the Demo. You may ask, "Why aren't you working on Chapter One first, Obscure?"
That's an absolutely fair question! The reason for this is simple: I can edit words that exist easily, but I can't edit words that don't exist.
Chapter One will be similar in some aspects to the Demo, with more decisions, interaction, ahem lewd scenes ahem, and some choices. In a manner of speaking - I don't have to write an entirely new Chapter One, only rewrite the Demo.
Right now, I would say I'm approximately...half-ish way through writing Chapter 2. A lot of the writing is accounting for different choices and routes selected, as well as making the situations humorous and creating enjoyable characters. It's not particularly difficult, just very time consuming to connect the different branches but make the choices feel meaningful. Anyway, I digress.
The goal right now is to start creating new assets come August. I've been holding off for two reasons: financial and design.
I personally want to have more involvement this time around with the character models and "uniqueness" of the character designs.
I also want to be able to keep two of my artists busy with the assets so they have peace of mind when it comes to working on the project and the quality is high (because when a person is juggling five different projects to pay rent or put food on the table, it's understandably not the biggest priority).
Once the assets are done, the focus will be to put it into code once the writing is done. In this regard, I plan to start putting the Chapter 2 assets together first and then focusing on Chapter 1. This will give me (and my team of awesome individuals) time to finish Chapter 1's rewrites, add in new options, features, and designs which I hope to cover in another Devlog soon-ish, and then give me an idea of what to add to Chapter 2 in response to those decisions.
This seems like the best course of action, because by that time Chapter 2 is already "done" in regards to character sprites and scene assets. I have to change up some words and lines, which is fine because audio and sound will be one of the last steps before release.
So, in summary:
- Honeymoon Quest is in active development.
- I'm currently writing Chapter 2 and getting ready to make some more assets in August.
- Humor is difficult to write in a system dependent on how fast you click, but I'm trying goddamn!
- Goal is to have a working playtest of both Chapter 1 and 2 by December/January, with a general release quickly followed thereafter.
Thank you so much for reading this far! If you haven't already and would like to, I have a Discord server for the project and a Twitter account which I'm much better with keeping up to date on. Hope to see you there!
If you'd like to help Honeymoon Quest and would like more of a say in the development and locations, as well as behind the scenes material and access to early builds or playtesting, I have a Patreon for the project.
